Mrs. Brickhouse: Science/Team Leader
Hello 49ers, students and parents! My name is Caroline Brickhouse. I'm excited to be your science teacher & 49ers team leader. This will be my tenth year teaching. I had a five year break from 2012-2018 and worked in the private sector as a science curriculum specialist. I have my BA in elementary education and a Master's in science education both from UNC-Chapel Hill. I began teaching in 2006 as a 6th grade science teacher at...Githens Middle School! I spent six years at Githens before taking a break, but I'm super excited to be back home at GMS. When I'm not teaching, I'm learning how to be a Mom to my daughter, continuing to be a Mom to my two dogs, playing and coaching ultimate frisbee with my husband, and breaking it down in Zumba classes.

Mrs. Sullivan: English Language Arts
Hello students and parents! My name is Kate Sullivan and I am the new 7th grade ELA teacher at Githens. I’m excited to be a part of the 49ers team. I grew up in England and studied Theatre, English and Sociology at Surrey University. I moved to Brooklyn, NY out of college and taught at a high school in Brooklyn for 5 years. During the summer months, I ran a residential camp for kids attending NYC public schools. In more recent years I have been working in the education nonprofit field and raising my two children Esme (8) and William (6). My husband and I moved to Chapel Hill five years ago. When I’m not teaching, I enjoy running, swimming and reading. I’m really looking forward to getting to know you all over the next year.

Mr. Walsh: Social Studies
My name is James Walsh and I am happy and looking forward to being your child’s Social Studies teacher on the 49ers Team :-) We will start off the year with a quick review to see what we have learned and/or have forgotten (or maybe some gaps in our knowledge). The students and I will be observing, and hopefully interacting with the various people, times, and places between 1500 and the modern world. The 1st unit for 7th grade is Geography (5 themes and map skills) and Culture (what is acceptable).
